Implicated eBook Peter Michael Rosenberg

Somehow I decided this NaNoWriMo month of November to read as many hitherto-unknown mystery writers as possible. The expected benefit was to learn something here and there from other writers, and Rosenberg is indeed instructive when it comes to character, setting, pacing -- wonderful. Even the real weasel-character Sammy was great fun. An UNexpected benefit of this exercise is that I've discovered some novelistic elements that really annoy me, and may distress other readers as well. Incomplete editing; this story deserves better work on the nuts-and-bolts. Also, why use British spelling and usage for a novel set in southern California? And, the oversight that really put me off: a big Mexican-American celebratory dinner with a menu that would NEVER happen. Otherwise, I was pleased to keep reading the adventures of the Cypriot crime scene cleaner and would read more from this author.

Implicated eBook Peter Michael Rosenberg Reviews

I liked this book because of the occupation of the main character. It was one not often used in a book. Although there were a few parts that were not "tight", the overall book was very good and the end unexpected.
I enjoyed the hell out of this book. 'Implicated' was particularly innovative in character development. Erdogan, Valerie and Frankie were inspired characters. Particularly the slyly stealth-heroic Erdogan wrestling with his deamons but unable to be denying of his honorable insticts when everything was in flames. I also appreciated the non-sexual male/female relationships Rosenberg built. Nicely done, sir. The only part that nagged a bit for me was that there seemed to be no thought of going outside of the local crooked cop sphere to appeal to the California or US Justice departments that should have had interest in a rogue police unit. But that was not enough to deny this book a well-deserved five stars.
Too many eBook thrillers, IMHO, focus on characters whose motives nicely fulfill the definition of the word depraved. It is as though only the seamy side of life is regarded as "realistic." While there is sufficient evidence of that sort of character in this book, there also is ample evidence of those who think of the meaning of their choices and actions. Then, too, the editing is exceptional. I only highlighted a few errors (hey, the English teacher in me still lives.) I like the main character. I like the lyrical passages. Well written.!
It's no secret that I have fast become a huge fan of Peter Michael Rosenberg, and I'm slowly working my way through his novels. "Implicated" is set against the backdrop of Ventura County and Ojai, California. Erdogan, the main character, is the man everyone calls when a crime scene needs cleaned up. To quote Mr. Rosenberg from his website, "After forensics have done their job, he gets to work". It's a nasty business, cleaning up all that leftover blood and gore, but character development tells the story of why he does what he does. When he finds a leftover piece of evidence at a hotel he is supposed to clean, it quickly becomes clear that there is more to the story than meets the eye. This leaves Erdogan questioning who he can trust, and wondering if his friends are really his enemies. The ending of the novel left me a bit disappointed, but overall another great narrative.
Mr. Rosenberg is Fantastic. I could not put this book down once I got into it. The characters are real and their stories compelling. Disappointed and sick at the monster Johnny turned out to be. So much about blood being thicker than water. He literally led his young cousin to the slaughter.

So many different stories to the " Bowling Team" and the " Sandman". Unreal in how such greed and corruption is within this group of police officers. I have no doubt this is something that has occurred and will again in our society and possibly worse.
I loved the depth of Erdogan. His strength of character and his faithful friendship for Frankie and Roy. I did sympathize with Frankie and how she became an unwilling participant in the evil Johnny and his crew were responsible for. It shows the love of a Mother will know no boundary.
Mr. Rosenberg, I am so glad you published with and that by chance and genre, I read your book. I will be looking for more of your novels.

This novel kept me awake until I had finished it or fell asleep with in hand. Thank you!
I did not like this book at all. About the only thing I did like was the bones/plot of the story. That was at least intricate and twisting and well thought out. What was not so much was the writing. I extremely disliked the POV in which this was written, it comes across jarring and several times throughout the book I thought I was reading a book written by a person for whom English was not their first language. I did not like this and will not be reading any more from this author.
As I was approaching the end, in the low 90% range, I was thinking I might rate this a three but say closer to 3.5 in my narrative. The ending, though, was a bit flat so I'll call it a straght 3. Even the editing seemed to deteriorate down the home stretch.
That said, the plot, while complicated, is pretty well developed. The climactic scenes develope nicely in pretty organized and believable progression, except for, essentially, the actual last page or two.
Dialogue is used rather sparingly, a plus or minus depending on individual preferrence. The author over-uses our hero's name in the narrative, and the fleshing out of his character, and why he is where he is, occurs almost as an aside in the very late stages of the story, even as the ending is well under way - it might have been better served taking place earlier. And, finally, while it's definitely surprising to find out who the mysterious top bad guy is, it seems a little far-fetched, even given time to think about it.
At the end of the day, this was a decent cheap read and I'm looking up other offerings by the author.
